Southmead Hospital Bristol, Fresh Arts: Ongoing Arts Programme

Fresh Arts Festival - a nurse stands in front of a wall decorated with colourful washi tape

In 2007 Willis Newson was commissioned by North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) to devise and establish a new ongoing arts programme for Frenchay and Southmead Hospitals. Its primary aims were to improve patient wellbeing and the working lives of staff. It has also helped to establish the hospitals within the heart the local community by, for example, engaging in projects with local schools and community groups. Working with NBT, we have created a thriving programme including exhibitions, a successful staff arts club, environmental improvement projects and an expanding art collection.

Following the build of the Southmead Hospital Willis Newson collaborated with Fresh Arts to create a festival of health and wellbeing in the new hospital building, to embed it into the local community and support wellbeing for staff and patients. Read more about it here.
