New artwork inspired by children

24 April 2013

Artwork by local artist, Seamus Staunton, developed and inspired by practical workshops with local children, has just been installed at the Children’s Hearing Centre at St Michael’s Hospital, Bristol.

Seamus worked with children at Henbury Court Primary School and ran workshops at the Children’s Hearing Centre and the school at Bristol Children’s Hospital.  Having been shown diagrams of the structure of the ear, the children were encouraged to think about music and imagine sounds as having colour, shape and form. The resulting artwork, inspired by their reactions, is called ‘Chorus’. It is a bright and interesting enhancement to a formerly unappealing corridor.

It is one part of a larger programme of commissions on which Willis Newson is currently working.
